"I ain't afraid..."
ein Lied gegen religiösen Fanatismus
Wenn zwei religiös fanatisierte Gruppen einander gegenübertreten, dann kann das nicht gut gehen.
Die auswegslose Situation in Israel und Palästina ist ein gutes Beipsile für diese einfache Regel. Da nützt es im Endeffekt wenig darüber
zu diskutieren, welche Art Fanatismus die schlimmere, nachhaltigere oder "vor Gott" noch eher vertretbare ist.
Die amerikanische Politsängerin Holly Near hat 2009 einen Song im Gospelstil
gesungen, der von der Klezmer-Band Klezmatics in Deutschland bekannt gemacht wurde. Während das Original
ausschließlich in Englisch gesungen wird, verwenden die "Klezmatics" auch jiddische Strophen. Beide Versionen sowie diverse
Modifikationen kursieren derzeit im Internet. Ein Fundus für Recherche. Zudem ist die "Gospel-Version" gut zu singen.
Die Aussage (und Moral) dieses Liedes ist frapant einfach und überzeugend zugleich:

Das Original von Holly Near
Holly Near (geboren 1949) ist eine Ikone der Szene politischer Songwriter in den USA, die seit langem als Kopf einer feministischen
Musik profiliert hat. Auf ihrer Internetplattform "Because of a Song" versammelt sie
Sängerinnen. Sie hat unter anderem mit Pete Seeger und Arto Guthrie zusammen konzertiert. 2023 beschreibt sie ihre Konzerte der 1980er Jahre,
für die auch "I ain't afraid" entstanden ist:
In 1983, Ronnie [Gilbert] and I developed a show singing together as a duo that went on a national tour. The concert halls filled with people
who crossed generations, cultures, and lifestyle boundaries. Children brought parents to introduce them to Holly Near. Elders brought
their children to introduce them to Ronnie Gilbert. Four generations of women came together. Red-diaper babies sat next to upwardly
mobile liberals, sometimes they were the same. We were in the midst of a unique, unforgettable coming together of past, present,
and future. We subsequently produced for Redwood Records a live album together from those shows, called "Lifeline".
"Holly is known for the anthemic quality of some of her songs.
As a songwriter she takes up the challenge of turning big concepts into small, personal stories":

Die Version der Klezmatics
Das Besondere der Version der amerikanischen Klezmer-Band "Klezmatics" ist,
dass sie einige Strophen der ursprünglich englischen Version von Holly Near auf Jiddisch singen. Damit fügen sie den
eigentlich musikalisch eher nach "Gospel" klingenden Song ein in die Tradition des
Klezmer-Revivals der 1980er Jahre,
an dem die 1985 gegründeten Klezmatics nicht unbeteiligt gewesen sind. Dies Revival, das in
Deutschland nach der Wende
1990 auch angekommen ist und dem "Giora-Feidman-Sound" vitale Konkurrenz gemacht hat, speiste sich aus drei Quellen:
Die junge jüdische Generation wollte erstens eine "jüdische Identität" jenseits von Religion konstruieren, zweitens nach dem Sechstagekrieg
sich dabei keineswegs mit Israel identifizieren und drittens sich von jeglicher "Holocaust-Industrie" [= bösartiger Titel eines
Buches von Norman Finkelstein, das die
ökonomische und ideologische "Vermarktung" des Holocaust kritisiert] distanzieren. Dazu
griffen sie die Tradition des Jewish Swing, der amerikanischen Adaption osteuropäischer Musik (= "Klezmermusik"), auf und
setzten erfolgfreich den beliebten "Balkan-Beat" ihrer Zeit fort. Der Erfolg dieses Stils in Deutschland innerhalb des Klezmer-Revivals verdankt sich
dem Aufkommen osteuropäischer und balkanischer Popmusik nach 1990 ("Balkan-Beat, "Russendisko" usw.).

Den Song kann man im Stil eines Gospel auch im Chor singen. Ein wunderschönes, gut ausgearbeitetes "Modell" hierfür bietet eine Aufführung
